Preclinical Development Manager

Offer Description:

We are looking for a Preclinical Development Manager who will join the R&D department at Gain Therapeutics reporting to the Head of Development. The candidate will be expected to execute and monitor nonclinical safety studies and interpret findings from these studies in support of clinical development. 

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day management of preclinical/early clinical development of new drug compounds

  • Work collaboratively with senior management and consultants to plan critical-path activities, establish program goals, budgets and timelines.

  • Apply project management best practices in the planning, initiation, execution, and tracking of project activities, timelines and related budget

  • Support regulatory submissions, ensuring all crucial timelines are met; assist regulatory affairs in meeting submission deadlines

  • Closely monitor and interact with Contract Research Organizations, granting agencies and consultants

  • Organize and participate in-person and teleconference meetings as appropriate, assist as needed with agendas, project overviews, project minutes, and communicate detailed meeting minutes with key decisions/action items.

Essential Requirements:

  • Master's degree in toxicology, biology or a related life-science field (Pharmacology/ Pharmaceutics/ Biochemistry, DVM, PharmD)

  • The candidate should have a track record of successful project management in the pre-clinical space with a record of successful project delivery from Candidate Selection to Regulatory Submission (IND or equivalent IMPD application), plus knowledge of the selection process of pre-clinical candidate drugs.

  • Minimum 5 years of preclinical development in pharmaceutical/biotech/CRO setting performing drug development activities such as: designing and monitoring nonclinical studies, interpreting data, generating reports and regulatory documents

Additional Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience with Project Management software

  • Good written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills

  • Ability to function independently as well as in a team-based environment

Junior Medicinal Chemist

Offer Description:

We are looking for a synthetic chemist or medicinal chemist who will join the Medicinal Chemistry Department at Gain Therapeutics. The candidate will contribute to the progress of the projects through the development of innovative chemistry and support the delivery of clinical candidates for the treatment of diseases associated with protein misfolding. 

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development and enablement of versatile and modular synthetic routes compatible with new target synthesis and validate these routes through reduction to practice.

  • Oversee the development of scalable routes to preclinical drug candidates.

  • Build effective partnerships with other teams at Gain and external research chemistry groups.

  • Support managing externalized synthetic work, acting as contact point, to ensure provision of chemistry protocols and scientific guidance to external contract research chemists.

  • Manage compound handling and logistics at Gain, as well as database maintenance.

  • Publish and present research internally and externally to Gain.

Essential Requirements:

  • Doctoral degree in synthetic organic chemistry or medicinal chemistry.

  • Strong experience in synthesis of complex molecules with state-of-the-art knowledge of modern synthetic methodologies and analytical and purification techniques.

  • Fluent in English.

  • High flexibility. Can cope with change.

  • Responds well to scientific challenge and applies significant rigor to their own work.

Junior Cell Biologist

We are looking for a junior cell biologist who will join the Biology Team at Gain Therapeutics. The candidate will bring his/her biological expertise and understand goals of the project to contribute to the development of treatments of diseases associated with protein misfolding such as rare genetic and neurodegenerative diseases. 

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct experiments and write reports summarizing findings and conclusions.

  • Build effective partnerships with other teams at Gain Therapeutics.

  • Contribute to the management of externalized work.

  • Provide scientific guidance and support to the other members of the Biology Team. Solve everyday problems in the laboratory.

  • Contribute to laboratory maintenance as part of the team.

  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the relevant scientific literature.

Essential Requirements:

  • Doctoral degree in disciplines such as Biology, Pharmacy or Biochemistry or related field.

  • Proven laboratory experience with excellent attention to detail. Experience in cell culture is a must.

Junior Molecular Modeller

Offer Description:

We are seeking a computational chemist with solid background on molecular simulations eager to pursue/consolidate a career in structure-based drug discovery. The work involves target assessment (druggability analysis), hit identification (virtual screening), stablishing structure-activity relationships and supporting a multidisciplinary team in the identification of clinical candidates.

Essential Requirements:

The ideal candidate holds a PhD, optionally with 2-3 years of post-doc experience, has a solid theoretical understanding of molecular recognition (protein-ligand association, protein folding), demonstrated experience in the use of molecular dynamics and is skilled in programming/scripting tools that ensure reproducibility and efficiency. Advanced analytical and critical problem-solving skills are essential.

The ability to deal with multiple tasks and deliver results in a timely manner is essential. Equally important, the selected candidate will be able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team, will be proactive in the identification of tasks to support the project and will communicate the results in a clear and effective manner.

The following specific computational chemistry skills are considered essential. The candidate should be proficient on most of them, and will be able to master the rest in a short amount of time.

  • Molecular dynamics

  • Molecular docking (protein-ligand)

  • MD-based free energy calculations

  • Advanced method for analysis of MD trajectories (e.g. MSM, clustering)

  • Experience in the use of X-ray crystallographic or cryo-EM data

  • As someone familiar in the use of computers, the candidate will have excellent command of shell scripting, python programming and the use of high-performance computing environments.

Essential Requirements:

Knowledge on one or more of these specific areas is an important advantage:

  • Chemoinformatics

  • Machine learning

  • Homology modelling

  • Bioinformatics

Knowledge of adjacent scientific areas, such as structural biology, medicinal chemistry, molecular biology, pharmacology, etcetera, will facilitate the integration in multidisciplinary teams and will be considered as a plus.

Research Pharmacologist

Offer Description:

We are looking for a Research Pharmacologist who will join the R&D department at Gain Therapeutics reporting to the Head of Development. The candidate will be expected to plan coordinate, and monitor in vivo research in particular in PoC studies.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the discovery of novel drugs within a multidisciplinary team

  • Responsible for in vivo pharmacology in research and development project teams

  • Design and write experimental protocols, direct animal studies to test hypotheses and address project-related questions, interpreting data, generating reports and regulatory document

  • Closely monitor and interact with Contract Research Organizations, granting agencies, academic institution and consultants

  • Contribute to new target proposals and evaluation/validation

  • Challenge status quo of projects, processes and own behavior and seek for continuous improvement

  • Organize and participate in-person and teleconference meetings as appropriate, assist as needed with agendas, project overviews, project minutes, and communicate detailed meeting minutes with key decisions/action items.

Essential Requirements:

  • PhD in life science with at least 3 years of pharma or biotech experience

  • Proven track record in development of new drug candidates

  • Know-how in preclinical in vivo studies including animal models, specimen analysis, PK

  • Good English (spoken and written)

  • Good communication and networking skills, flexible and proactive mindset
